L'orlan (Vuscovi: L`orlani Esкao tr: City of The Cork Oak; IPA: [ˌɨl.ˈɔː.lɑːn.]; əl-ore-lan) is the third largest city within the Empire of Tyvic and one of the three "rich triplets of Empyria", earning its place as the second most advanced industrial centre of the Empire.

The settlement is known as "city of the cork oak" - or simply the city of cork (Ugal`esкa) - for its ubiquitous festive spirit and wine culture, as well as its bountiful cork oak plantations harvested in their entirety every nine years. Owing to its developed industry and heavily eastern-influenced culture, L'orlan has also come to be known as the "light of the east" throughout Tyvic.

A home of a thriving culture of relaxation, L'orlan is often a holiday destination for the more well-off of Vuscovi, Gilderdammic and Altane businesspeople, as well as unoccupied nobles from throughout the lands, and off-duty soldiers from war-torn Gilderdammen and the Empyrian-Voonis front line, seeking an escape in the bizarre, culturally removed and intriguing land of Empyria, or for the locals, simply a safe place that they can still call home. Those who grace its restaurants in drink and song and its hotels in staggered, blind-drunk footsteps very much do so to drink away their financial or gunpowder-inflicted wounds, to celebrate a recent victory in the fields of either profit or battle (or in the case of a marginal few profiteers, both), or simply to embrace festivity for its own sake. This bubble of splendour, despite its perhaps worryingly close proximity to the bloodied border that splits the Vuscovi lands in half, is maintained largely due to the vast defensive plateau that the city stands upon, in addition to whatever state-of-the art weaponry and defence systems the Lord Mayor and his court have managed to purchase well in advance of the rest of the backward Vuscovi lands.
